Hip-hop dress code & class descriptions

Hip-hop encourages creative expression and personal style, therefore, class attire should reflect the personality of the dancer.

 

What to wear to hip-hop class:

  • Comfortable clothes you can move in (no jeans)

    • Baggy t-shirts, dance tops, hoodies, etc.

    • Sweatpants, joggers, shorts, leggings, etc.

    • Sneakers, high-top sneakers (shoes should be clean - to avoid tracking in rocks and dirt). No flip-flops, sandals, or Crocs

    • Baseball hats, bucket hats or beanies are welcome

    • Dance-safe jewelry (please no bracelets or necklaces with individual beads that can break)

  • Hip-hop Levels 1 & 2 - ages 5-8

    Dancers develop musicality, creativity, listening skills and coordination. This non-stop class includes hip-hop, basic break dancing, and dance games that get the students moving to the beats! This class will have the opportunity to perform in both December and May.

    45 minute class/per week

  • Hip-Hop Level 3 - ages 7-11

    This dance class focuses on muscle development, coordination, and musicality through fun and creative ways! Students will also focus on developing their individual style. This class will have the opportunity to perform in both December and May.

    45 minute class/per week

  • Hip-Hop Level 4 - ages 9-13

    Hip-hop 4 classes are energetic, upbeat, dynamic, and technical. Students will be exposed to many different hip-hop styles. They will also be encouraged to find their own style and dance creatively. This class will have the opportunity to perform in May.

    60 minute class/per week

  • Hip-Hop Levels 4 & 5 - ages 10-16

    Hip-hop Levels 4 & 5 focus on developing rhythm and coordination while encouraging individual style. This class is energetic, upbeat, dynamic, and technical. Students will be exposed to many different hip-hop styles and explore freestyle techniques. This class will have the opportunity to perform in May.

    60 minute class/per week

  • Hip-Hop Level 5 - ages 12-16

    Hip-hop 5 encompasses a wide range of hip-hop styles. This class focuses on students embracing their creative freedom and personal style and becoming more comfortable utilizing musicality. Dancers will learn about the culture of hip-hop and all of its elements. This class will have the opportunity to perform in May.

    60 minute class/per week

  • Hip-hop Levels 6 & 7 - ages 13 & up

    Hip-hop 6/7 blends the foundations of hip-hop dance with commercial hip-hop style, to create fun and challenging choreography. Dancers will learn about the culture of hip-hop and all of its elements. Students will focus on embracing their creative freedom and personal style and become more comfortable utilizing musicality. This class will have the opportunity to perform in May.

    60 minute class/per week

  • Hip-hop Sessions - ages 10 & up

    We are excited to announce Hannah Gossett will be doing a residency at UAC for the 2022-2023 season. Students can sign-up for the Hip-hop sessions (9 throughout the school year) to focus and explore their personal style, while building confidence and performance quality.
